SHAKTI PRODUCTIONS
Shakti Productions was created in 2002 by Steve and Stephanie JAMES
to promote the cultural diversity and richness of the Caribbean through film.
Their main production, “WOMEN WEST INDIES” is a television magazine composed of
144 Caribbean women portraits shot in 40 countries around the world,
the largest collection of films dedicated to contemporary Caribbean women in the world.
It was originally funded by the European Interreg program as a tool to better integrate
the French Regions of the Americas in their geographical environment.
In addition to the production itself, this support was used to broadcast the series for free throughout the Caribbean (up to 135 weekly broadcasts on 27 channels).
They wrote, directed and/or produced several documentaries in various countries highlighting Caribbean cultural heritage, racial relations in Brazil, violence against women in Martinique, humanitarian action and identity quest in Benin, and humanitarian initiatives
and sustainable development in Haïti.
